Can you believe it?

Its going to be 2009 in less then 11 hours! Can you believe it? What a whirlwind of a year. We laughed, we cried, we screamed, we hurt and healed, we saw and loved, we lost and gained, we learned and made mistakes; and through it all we seemed to find ourselves scarred and bruised but loved and healing. We found out how much we can take and how much we are truly capable of.

Will we look back on 2008 and say this was the best year of our lives? maybe not, maybe so....probably not. It was a good year but we can always make the next one better....which brings us to the dreaded new years resolution....whats mine you ask? to lose weight? to better my credit? to have more kids? to buy a home? all very nice but we never know what will happen. What I do know is that I can in some way make this year a little better then last. I can laugh more, I can be a better friend, I can let go of negative things that hold me down, I can take 10 minutes out of everyday and truly appreciate what I've been given, I can brighten someones day by taking the extra time. So that's what I plan on doing...what do you plan on doing?

well whatever it is, lets remember who we are and what we stand for, remember that we are loved and always remember to smile.

Love,
Maura

Oh mondays!!! Ugg

We had an awesome Christmas, one of the best in years. We had lots of family come, tons of great food and company, not to mention the endless rounds of Killer Bunnies and Dad's camera catching all the fun.
We got to see Jason for a whole seven days and Deborah and Tyler for five. I made a cake and Deborah made some awesome candy. Mom and dad made some killer tamale's and I am very excited to announce we now have a clear play. Wahoo.
I had four straight days off and what does that mean? I got to sleep in, pig out, have fun and not worry about cleaning...I should have but I didn't. hehe. What else does that mean? .....yup the dreaded Monday. And a Monday after a long holiday always seems ten times worse. I'm tired, I'm used to sleeping in. I'm cranky, I want to play killer bunnies or pig out on some candy...not answer the non-stop phones with people who have obviously run out of the Christmas cheer. I want to go to the mall and hit all the big sales I heard about on the news this morning and I want to play with all my new toys we got for Christmas (i.e. clear play, putting recipe's in my new cookbook, watching movies and so much more!)
Jason leaves today, I work today, Juliet is in school, I have bills to pay, dishes to clean, laundry to fold and a diet that needs to be started.....welcome to the new year. I wish I could do the last week all over again. It was so much fun and I loved seeing all of my family here. Yay to Christmas...Boo to work!!!!

O well, such is life. :)

RELAX

Jason, Juliet, Rebekah and Aaron (Rebekah's boyfriend) and I all went to the airport to pick up Deborah and Tyler who flew in from Idaho. On the way home we all went to Red Robin, because Jason had promised Juliet that he would take her and since we were already in Reno, might as well go out right? :)

On the way there or back, really can't remember which Jason and I were getting in a debate about directions. He told me to get in the very right lane but then when I pointed out that it was a turn only, he told me he had said get in the middle right lane. Anyway, we were having a friendly banter back and forth when from the back seat pipes Juliet who says:

"mom, mom....Relax"

Deborah immediately hides her face in Tylers shoulder to keep from laughing, Jason and I look at each other with the 'she's your kid' look and Tyler, as always, look calm and collected.

It was classic...and yes, I do realize that she is my daughter! :)

Yay, Chirstmas

Christmas is almost here and the weather is finally starting to show it. We are getting cold, snowy weather. The tree is up, most of the presents are wrapped, the baking has started and the anticipation is grand! Our family is either here or coming soon and we are all soooo excited.

It's ganna be a great. There's ganna be good times! we're ganna play games, make food, eat food. :) watch movies, stay up late, take pictures, open presents, hopefully play in some snow and enjoy each other company...

I am sooo excited I can barely stand it.

Hope your Christmas is just as fun and exciting as our is going to be. :)

wait...what?

I type my little fingers off, thinking if I can type faster magically the time will fallow my lead... '2:30' I think...'only 2 and 1/2 hours left, better type faster'. I answer a call they man talks about his bird, his shoes and his latest medical procedure and finally comes to his question. I answer with straining patience, then he asks 'what time is it sweetheart' I look at the clock convinced its gotta be 5...but no its only 2:45, there's now way that conversation only took 15 minutes. I hang up, take a deep breath and begin my race against my own clock. What will I win - a big helping of disappointment, when I look at the clock and its only 3:15. ' ok something has gotta be wrong here' I get up and go over to my co workers desk...nope 3:15 there too. Both of us must be stuck in this twilight zone time standstill.

I march back to my desk and get another call. This time its a woman talking about her daughter, her half witted neighbour and her latest medical procedure. I get alot of people who feel it necessary to talk about their medical procedures. We talk in circles for what seems like and hour, then she says "maybe I should call back on Monday, you are almost out of there" 'Wait, What? Can it be, can it be 5pm' I think with giddy excitement that can only be experienced on Friday afternoons....I look at the clock....'no this can't be, this can't be right? how can the clock seriously have no 5's on it...why does it only say 3:49' I think, almost out load. "no" I tell the member "I can help you, we are here for an hour longer" I almost cry at he prospect of it all. I finally get off the phone knowing for sure this time I would have warped out of the Bermuda triangle of time and back to the real world where 5 eventually gets here!

No, only 4:10. I have a metal picture of me screaming and pulling out my hair while a million clocks forever tick at 4:50pm. This really isn't happening and goodness knows I would not be blogging if it were, but it seemed real for the crazed full minute I looked at the clock desperately trying wrap my brain around the fact that I still had an HOUR to go.

oh another call...please no more medical procedures, please no crazy neighbours or deadbeat children. Please clock go, go, go. Why cant' you go. Who's cruel cosmic joke is this. I hope someone is having a good laugh at this one....because I'm not!

Surprise

Jason came into town on Tuesday and was able to stay for a few hours. So right after work I drove Juliet up to Reno. I didn't' tell her what we were going for and every time she asked I just told her it was a surprise.

We drove through Reno and on our way to sparks when she pipes up from the back seat. "I really miss my daddy. I want to see him soon" I say "I know baby, I miss him too. We can see him soon" course she has no idea how soon. :)

We drive into the parking lot and sit in the car waiting for the surprise to come. "what are we doing" Juliet wined from the back seat. I don't' mind the wine so much this time because of the surprise. Then I hear "Mommy, it's daddy" She was so excited she couldn't even stand it.

When Jason opened the back door and gave her a hug, she was literally speechless and then she started to cry a little. Poor little thing had no idea why she was crying, we as adults, realize that happens when you are too emotional to do anything else, wither it be sadness, anger, happiness or relief. She just knew she was happy to see him. It really touched my heart.

So we had a really nice time, Jason took us to Red Robbin and Juliet even got to see the 'red bird'. Then we took Jason back to his truck and did our good bye's.

On the way home I asked Juliet if she liked her surprise. "what surprise?" "daddy" she thinks for a second then kinda chuckles at me. "silly mommy" she says "daddy isn't a prize, only toys are prizes."

It was super cute and have we had a great time. We get to see him in less the two weeks! we are so excited.

ewww.....

Juliet and I went to the store because it has a wells fargo in it, and I needed to deposit some money before the rent check went through. On the way in we walked right by the flower department, in said flower department they have a new item this year. Little Christmas Tree looking plants but they are made out of rosemary plants.

Juliet and I look at them, we both feel them, after all feeling and smelling and looking are all part of the window shopping experience. So we go on to the bank portion of the store, do our business and then walk back out to the car.

Juliet tells me that there is a yucky smell in her nose and she gets very upset about this fact and the fact that this smell will just not go away. I tell her several times I just can't figure out what she is talking about, because I can't smell a thing. I glance in my rear view mirror and see her pinching her tiny nose between her fingers as hard as she can.

I tell her we will be out of the car soon and maybe the smell will go away, then I scratch and itch on my nose....'hmmm. I love that smell' wait....my figures smell like Christmas tree and Rosemary....

I ask Juliet to smell my finger and see if that is the icky smell. Yes she says with a most disgusted face. Then she plugs her nose and looks at me like I have a disease.

I tell her that the smell is on her fingers and that it won't go away if she keeps putting her fingers by her nose. She smells her fingers and tells me that yucky smell in her nose is her fingers. :)

then we go and get McDonald's, she asks for a fry and I hear her say. "the yucky smell is gone, my fry is in my nose"

"see now that there is another smell you can't smell your fingers huh"

"ya"

then I look behind me. The girl literally put the fry in her nose. She didn't like the smell that much that she stuck a fry up her nose. hahaha.

well got to give her props for fixing her problem.

Venus and Jupiter, the big fat planets....

So today if you looked at the moon you could see Venus and Jupiter very clearly. It doesn't happen often and I personally can say I have not seen them that pronounced. It's fun to know you could be anywhere in the world and know that someone in a different state, country or even Continent can see the same thing you are. :)

So Juliet and I were walking out to the car and even she noticed the new 'stars' next to the moon. Which, by the way, is only a sliver of a moon tonight. Juliet described it as "look at the two big stars next to the pointy moon" it was dang cute.

I called Jason to tell him about Juliets description of the moon, then he gets into telling me how pretty it is looks, especially to him because he is driving out in the middle of nowhere so it is very bright to him.

K the next segment of my story is why I shouldn't fish for complements form my husband. I love him dearly and wouldn't trade him for anything but sometimes the things that come out of his mouth, and the way I interpret them. Well its' a good thing we know each other so well not to take offense. :)

He tells me how pretty the setting is. I ask him what does it remind him of because the starts are so pretty. He catches on and says 'you hunny' Pause..... 'but they're planets'

haha. so technically I'm as pretty as a big fat planet. I cracked up so badly I almost peed myself in the store. He was laughing pretty hard too. Aw good times. It's so great to be out of the 'everything I say has to impress them' stage. :) I love my husband!

dugh

Yesterday I took Juliet to the movies, just the two of us. I asked her what she wanted to go see, sure she was going to pick Madagascar since she had seen Bolt already. But she wanted to see Bolt again so off we went.

We got our popcorn and drinks, our nifty 3-D glasses and settled down in the theatre full of kids and talkative parents. The lights go down and the screen illuminates with the fantastical world of Disney.

It takes a little while for her to get used to things coming off the screen and flying at her so she asks if she can sit in my lap. So she scoots herself on, gets comfy and munches on some yummy popcorn, while we watch the previews.

On comes a preview for Ice-Age 3, of course all the preview's are of the poor little squirrel that can never seem to keep a hold of the little nut of his. Well in this one he comes upon a girlie who wants the same nut. So they go through this fighting seen, going back and forth tricking and conjoling and stealing it from each other. I think nothing of it, this is what you see in movies all the time right? Juliet is watching with a popcorn kernel poised between her figures, frozen half way to her mouth with a 'really?' look on her face. Then she turns to me and in a very 'dugh' tone tells me....'they should just cut it in half.'

I tell her what a great idea that would be, while I swell with a little bit of motherly pride for she obviously is learning something right. Course it probably came from all the other adult influences in her life who drill in the concept of sharing, saying thank you and being nice to others. But its nice to think I might have something to do with teaching her the right way.

I often forget how many times we see jealousy, corruption, trickery and plain meanness in our everyday life. Even in our beloved Disney movies. It's nice to see that she has not succumbed to that and hope she wont for a while yet.

Observant

My father had a beard for many, many years. It was his pride and joy, everyone loved it, especially my mom. Around four years ago, my father shaved that beard. Some thought it was a nice change, some mourned but all of us took a while to get used to it.

Today we celebrated Thanksgiving because some of the family that won't be in town next week were here this week. We had Mom, me, Jason, Marina, Alexander, Keith, the Thorntons, Thelma, Mr. Sorram and Aunt Maura. We were all visiting and having a great time and then my dad comes in from church meetings. He walks in, hangs up his coat, while he answers the various hello's and how's it going's coming his way. Then from the table my Aunt Maura says

"Orey, you shaved off your beard"

there was a very load silence, many 'are you serious?' looks flickered towards her and then a chorus of 'only like 5 years ago' coming from all over the room.

We all had a good laugh and mom said it must have been the fact that she doesn't have so much blond in her hair this time. Good try but I think missing someones change of appearance for five years is a little more then coloring your hair darker in the last few weeks. What will she discover next? Deborahs married?, Marina can drive? Eric is officially adopted in the family? Who knows.

Good observation Aunt Maura and thanks for the crack up!

You did WHAT?!?!?!

We all remember our little crushes on the playground, our school yard banter between boys and girls trying to persuade or astound the opposite sex with talk of things we thought we knew about. Who could forget that? And when did that start....3rd, 4rth grade?

Well today I was shocked out of my wits. In fact, so shocked that I almost drove my car off the road, as it was I had to jerk it back into the lane I was in. Here is the following conversation between Juliet and I. My words will be in peach and Juliets words will be in light blue.

So did you have a good day?
Ya
What did you do?
I played outside and shared the swings
Great! good job for sharing
And I played with Jacob and Emily
They are in your class?
Ya, Jacob is always the last one inside
Oh, well that can happen.
Ya, mommy guess what?
What baby?
Today Jacob kissed me, ya we got married by the swing, under the slide and then he kissed me.

Insert skidding tires, jackets flying around the car and me gasping and then
silence.....

You did?
Ya, and then we went inside.
K hunny, you can't be doing that anymore k? It's nice that you play with Jacob, but you can't be kissing him
Oh....only mommies and daddies do that?
Ya! thats it only mommies and daddies do that.
oh...ok, so then we went inside and painted.

So not only has my daughter beaten the curve by knocking the usual schoolyard 'married' scene down to pre-k, but pretty sure she orchestrated the whole thing....she is, I have no doubt, the one that told him to marry her and then give her a kiss! My goodness.

Well there you go. I definitely have to keep this story in my journal because this will be nice to tell her when she is 18..."your first kiss was Jacob and you were THREEEEEEEE!!!!! and you gave me a heart attack!"

I get to meet who?...

My sister Marina can be quite the character! She can make you laugh without even trying. So we signed up for the Great American Weight Loss challenge....Like that's something I need right? I know how to lose weight, I just can't do it. I don't need some skinny chick who has never been fat a day in her life to tell me how to eat. Whatever. Ok back to the story. We were at Jenny Craig and all we had was a check to pay for our sign up fee. Mom didn't want to go to the bank for 15.00, so asked if there was anyway we could pay with a check. The lady behind the counter said if we wrote it in her name then she would pay the cash. That's when Marina leans over and says:

Marina: Are we in Jenny Craig

Me: Ya...

Marina: That's so cool, I didn't think I would be able to meet her

Me: Wait, what? did you ask if we were in Jenny Craig or if she is Jenny Craig

Marina: I asked if that is Jenny Craig

Insert me giving Marina the 'oh you poor thing' look

Me: No hunny, Jenny Craig isn't a real person....its like Betty Crocker, its just a brand name

Marina looks at me with big soulful eyes.

Marina: What do you mean Betty Crocker's not real?

You would have thought I told her her dog ran away, or Santa wasn't coming.
And of course me being who I am, instead of saying some comforting big sister word, I laughed my head off and proceeded to tell everyone who would listen about Marinas misguided assumptions. It was classic!

Not on my scale......

A few weeks ago my mom, sister and I signed up for the great American weight loss challenge. You get a free month at the gym and all these eating/health tips. Every week you have to weigh in to find out if we have lost anything. Well I started out at not such a great number....well let me rephrase that... the number was great, as in HUGE, but it wasn't the number I would like to have seen.

So I went about my week, waking up at the bumcrack of dawn (and yes in my world dawn does have a bumcrack!) getting Juliet ready and heading my not-so-happy behind to the gym. I worked out something fierce and have been rather good on my eating habits. So Marina and I go back to the gym to weigh in. Ok before we went, I did a little weigh in on my home scale to see where I would be. In the time it took us to drive from my house to the gym, their scale is telling me that I gained 3 pounds. Are you kidding me? Ya right!

I was thourally disgusted and promptly went home and ate a big ol piece of cake. I mean if their scale is going to say I weight 3 more pounds then I should then by gosh I am going to live up to that....

Of course the next morning I doubled timed my exercises because I realized what a doofus mistake that was. Now I had to pay for my little fit by stiarmastering the cake away. O well lesson learned. Don't eat your emotions and go by your own scale and not some skinny airheads scale.

But no I'm not bitter. :)

Prop 8

Here is a link to a news story about how the gay community has rallied outside of one of the CA temples - stating the reason Prop 8 passed was because of Mormons and that we are bigots.

http://www.ktla.com/landing_topstories/?Prop-8-Protesters-Rally-Outside-Mormon-T=1&blockID=127805&feedID=1198

I do not believe we are bigots and even a counter statement in the article states why we are not bigots and why we supported Prop 8.

I have mixed feelings about this. I am happy that we succeeded and enough so that they have now "blamed" us for the outcome, but I am angry that they would find it necessary to go to our holy grounds and cause trouble because they are angry. I understand they are angry, but be respectful.

The article goes on to say that for every $5 donation you give to their organization to reverse the outcome they will send a postcard to President Monson regarding their views and such, when in the same breath the woman said 'its ok to have your opinions but do not force them on me" hello that is exactly what you are doing?

If I were being petty (and in my ranting and raving right now... I am) I say we send a pass a long card for every postcard they send us. And for every angry letter or petition that goes around send a pair of missionaries to those who either sent it or signed it.

Ok I am done. I know it will all calm down in a matter of months....or not but either way our great Prophet will conduct himself wonderfully and defend or explain things to them that they might understand, they might not want to hear it but that is on them.

I do have to say that I love our church so very much. The way we are able to stick together, work as one even from different states, have one goal and one purpose but still be able to express our views and be individuals. There are not very many places on earth you can find that and I am glad I am part of it.

photo tagged

So Deborah photo tagged me. You have to take the fourth picture out of the fourth folder in your pic file. Well I only have one file and it needs to be updated....badly. My pics are all in different spots, thus the reason I don't scrapbook.

Anyway, this is Juliet at about 4-5 months. Desperately trying to learn to walk. She never did want to sit still....she's a real go getter! Don't you just love that face?!?! It's like 'what, like you could do better?' haha, that is so her!

So there you go I've done my tagging, now its your turn. I am sure your picture file is far more advanced then mine. Considering Juliet is almost four now so this pic is 3 years old now. :)

Love ya.

Can't wait

until this election is over. First of all the suspense is killing me, I mean this is a big year, a historic moment! but I can't stand the politics anymore. Just pick one and be on with it!

I'm tired of hearing why this one or that one wont be good or what they are lying about or what not. All of them lie, all of them are good or bad in their own way. I am partial to one more then I am the other and have been following how they have run each of their campaigns.

This will be one for the history books, but dang I can't wait till its done!

Kids say the darndest things.....

Jason set up our Internet over the weekend and since then we have all been chomping at the bit to get our turn on it. Well it was Jason's turn and he had Juliet on his lap cruisen the high speed....ah isn't that cute? Anywho... Jason was reading some celeb gossip (its like a train wreck, you have to read it even though you know its no good) and saw that Gary Coleman had gotten arrested for something. This is the conversation that ensued:
Jason: That's crazy
Juliet: Who's crazy daddy, the chocolate boy?

Ok....so at no time have we ever referred to dark skinned people as chocolates but it is her favorite candy so she just made the association between the colors. After Jason choked on his laugh and walked off the total shock of it, he explained that is not how you refer to people and all that good stuff....( I have to say he did really good, not once did he smile or giggle, that would have undone everything he was trying to teach her). Of course we laughed about it after she went to bed and still sneak in a giggle here and there.

Oh, the innocence of children....cracks me up sometimes.

Doing something

I was recently throwing myself a pity part. I felt my siblings are more talented then I am and that my life was basically boring and amounting to nothing. Ultimately I was afraid I would slip into the background and not be important or even remembered when all is said and done. Well I was told my a very good friend of mine that if I had a problem with my life, to get off my tush and do something about it. I mean talent seldom just drops in ones lap and if and when it does it needs to be kept up and honed. she was absolutely right, so I have decided to take on a few new adventures. Some may fail, some I might turn out to be super good at, but at least I can say I tried them or picked them back up as the case may be.

The following activities are things I have decided to do in the next year!

Take the rest of the cake decorating classes.
Audition and hopefully be in a collage play (even if it is in the chorus. hehe)
Take an art class (pottery, painting or digital imaging)
Try my hand at writing
Start and hopefully not kill a garden. haha.
Take piano lessons

I think that is a good list to start out with. I have done the plays and the cake classes before and Loved them! the other things are new and I hope to enjoy them or at least learn something. I am actually kinda excited about it and hope this gets me out of my funk!

Go to work to catch my breath....since when?

So as most of you know I have a lot of siblings and those siblings are extremely talented! which usually means they are doing way cool things with their talents and where does that leave me. Going to watch my awesome bros and sis's in these different forums.

This means that most to all of my weekends are used going to concerts, competitions, road trips, preparations and whatnot. It's fun. I love it. But that doesn't leave room to get myself caught up on stuff at home. What kinds of stuff you ask? well there is laundry, dishes, yard work, house work, grocery shopping, spending time with Juliet and lately unpacking and starting to get ready for the holidays. I usually stagger into bed (after putting Juliet to bed for the 5th time) barely able to keep my eyes open.

So when do I get a chance to just sit down and breath? well ironically at work... Yes I have to do things. I file and input information, type up letters, send out mailers, talk to customers and insurance companies. But all of this I can stop for 5 minutes and just catch a breath. Read a little CNN, catch up on a blog or myspace or even just sit and think of nothing. I mean we get two fifteen minute breaks a day....you don't get those on the weekend. haha

Who would have thunk that work is a place where I could catch a break. Like I said earlier, I love my family dearly and love supporting them and have no regrets at all. I just have found lately with me, and I am sure with a lot of other people, work has become a place to wind down from the weekend and weeknights.

Crazy huh?

An ode to a sister.

So we all have sisters in our lives, wither they were born in or just super good friends who have become our sudo-sisters. I am fortunate enough to have several sisters and a couple of brothers. It makes it a lively bunch when we all get together as well as a real network of support and love. I love them all dearly, but one particular sister has helped me out greatly lately. I will not say her name but I am sure she knows who she is. Don't get me wrong, I love all of my family with a passion I would do anything for them. But sometimes you lean on one more then you lean on another and sometimes that leaning post changes. So today I would like to say thank you to this particular sibling with a little poem. I tried my hand at it, so I don't' know how it will turn out but I hope it gets my point across.

A Sister, An Angel
by: Maura Duke

What could be said about you or to you
To let you know how much you mean
I could call you loving, smart, a real friend, which are all true
I could tell you, you are a light, a guide, a rock on which to lean

But would it be enough dear sister
Would you understand, grasp or comprehend
That being your sister is a gift, a blessing and honor
that you are more then a rock, a blessing, a friend

You are without a doubt
An honest to goodness Angel
Put here for me, to help me out
And life without you would be sad, lonely and fickle

You lift my spirits, made me want to do better
You help me see, but not just me - everyone around you
You bring peace and love through your smile, a word or a letter
How many can do that? Let me tell you sister - very few!

So I ask you again
My dearest sister, my Angel
Can you understand or even comprehend
The sheer love I have for you, how grateful

So thank you dear one
Those tiny words do nothing for what I feel
For all you have done
You helped me live, you helped me heal

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
My Sister, My Angel.

Awareness

The following website has some great issues that need to be looked at and addressed from feeding the hungry to breast cancer awareness! But the cool thing about this site is if you go to the different tabs and click on the "click here" button it helps the causes out.

You see each click is counted and the sponsors have to pay a portion of their proceeds to the different agencies based on how many clicks their site gets. I go on every day and click at least 3-4 times. At the bottom of the page (after you have clicked on it) it tells what you have donated to and how many it has helped so far.

It doesn't cost anything and it is super fast and easy to do. I would encourage you to keep this site in your favorites and click on them everyday. Or you can get to it from my blog and click away from there.

Its a small part we can do and face it, we all need to do our part. :)

Final Name

Ok everyone, I loved all the suggestions and I appreciate that you took the time to give them to me. Here is the name I picked. I hope you like it. If not to bad...hehe.

Frosted Dreams

I was driving along and kept thinking of all the different names I could name a cake shop. I didn't want it to long or short, I wanted it classy but fun, rememberable but not over bearing or snobbish. I kept trying to incorporate cake in the name but then it all of the sudden came to me. I don't need 'cake' in the name. dur.....so then I start thinking about all the other qualifications I had and viola...Frosted Dreams came to me.

Anyway, there you go. I have my first -out side the family- gig in February. Its a friend of mine wedding and I am kinda nervous. I get nervous when my family eats my cakes so we will see how torn up I am over this as the time gets closer. :)

I am currently working on a logo and when I get that I will post it on here and on my myspace.

Thanks again!

Our new digs

So most of you know that I have moved. We now live back in Carson City. Just wanted to post a pic or two of what our new digs look like.

This is our house.

This is the side/extra room, it has it's own door.

Wahooo. a front yard....WITH GRASS!!!!!!

Kitchen....you can see into the dining room and then into the living room. This is from the door that leads to the extra room.

another pic of the kitchen...I like kitchens. :)

Duh a stove.....like I said. I like kitchens......

Dining room. The Window in there is HUGE and faces the front yard. Perfect for a Christmas Tree.

Living room.

Guest bathroom. It has the washer and dryer, two sinks and beautiful tile floor.

Rebekah's bedroom.

I didn't take pics of my or Juliets room......but they look like rooms. hehe.

Hope you all get a chance to come visit soon. I totally love it and already feel like I've lived there for a long time!

short but sweat this time kids. (as Deborah would say) Catch ya on the flip side....

what? it's alive?

I have never been a dog, mayhaps pretended to be a dog when I was a youngster but cant' recall wanting or trying to think like a dog in the last 10-15 years. But I had to sit and think what the heck the dog was thinking the other day and this is the best I could come up with.

Set the scene: Frodo our dog, Brooklyn our newly found cat (seriously found her last week, she is only 4-5 weeks old) and Rebekah's new puppy, Toby are all in the kitchen or dining room chomping on some grub. Frodo has come accustomed to the cat but Toby has only had a few encounters with her.

Ok...this is the story from Brooklyn and Toby's point of view...

Toby: Yum, that was good. Now what else can I stick my nose in or eat up around here?

Brooklyn: This cat food and baby formula is pretty tasty if i do say so myself!...what is that smell...oh dog.

Toby: whats that smell....oh cat.

Toby walks over and smells Brooklyn then licks her

Toby: not to bad, does it move?

Brooklyn: uck slobber, if I don't move maybe it will go away

Toby: Oh, maybe its one of those chew things....cool!

Brooklyn: uck you stink

Toby takes Brooklyn's back paws and starts dragging her across the floor.

Toby: hey this is fun

Brooklyn: what the heck...did he really just do that?

Me....no no Toby (Toby hears blah blah)

Toby: whats that girl saying...they are so weird

Brooklyn: MEOW

Toby drops her and they both look at each other for a second.

Toby: cool your alive?

Brooklyn: dur I'm alive

Toby: whatever, still fun to play with

Then Toby takes Brooklyn by the scruff and start carrying her around. I swear if cats could cross their arms she would have because you could see it all over face.

Brooklyn: You have got to be kidding me. I yelled to be taken off a wall to be brought to a place where the stinky drooly dog carries me around.....what a jip...shoulda stayed on the wall.

Me: Toby. drop her!

Toby: well that wasn't a good tone, I'll just drop her.

Brooklyn: yuck now I need a bath

I scoop her up to see if there is any damage. Toby looks at me with the "what" face and Brooklyn looks at me with the "took you long enough" face.

Toby: whatever, oohh whats that

Brooklyn: well at least now I am being carried....so that's nice.

So basically Toby thought Brooklyn was carry around material. the whole time Frodo is watching everyone with little interest and I am trying not to laugh.

It was cute, I have a feeling there will be a lot of stories about the three of them. :)

6 years gets me.....

I went to the dentist last week. The first time in a little over 6 years. I decided to go because I had one tooth that was really bothering me and I have this fear of my teeth falling out and me looking back country. Plus Juliet needed to go to the dentist so I made her appointment and both my dentist and eye appointment all on the same day. Who knew going to the doctors all day could be so exhausting (personally I think it was all the money that kept needing to be paid....that does make me tired).

So what does waiting 6 years get me? Well how about 5 cavities that need to be filled, 4 wisdom teeth that need to be pulled, a front tooth that has died and now needs a root canal and a little over $2,000 dollars in work....thank goodness for insurance!!!! But I get a free night guard....that's nice right?

so there you have it. I don't know if waiting the 6 years actually caused all of those things or if they would have had to happen anyway, but now I have dentist procedures lined up from now until next July. Oh how fun!!!!

Break for her, Work for me!

So my little one is in year around school which means every three or four weeks she gets a break and doesn't go to class, which ultimately means....Yup....I get to go back to the gym.

I have moved to my new job, moved to a new house, Jason got a job where he is no longer home all the time and had my little one start school...needless to say I have been doing a lot of stress eating and no not carrots! Unless in cake form...but somehow I don't' think that counts, and since I have had to use my lunch to pick up said little one. I haven't been able to go to the gym.

But now there are no excuses. Juliet is going on break, we are moved into our new house (only 5 minutes away), I've gotten used to Jason's job and have settled (quite nicely) into my new job...it's time to face the facts or the fats! and get my bum back into the gym.

So I will be taking my clever little work out outfit (baggy pants and one of Jason's t-shirts), my gym shoes, pull up my hair (my want to be pony-tale makes me look like a samurai warrior) and elliptical until I can feel those little fat bubbles popping away! I know that was probably gross but it's true. I am so tired and have no energy and just want to vedge all the time and I know it's because I don't' exercises like I used to.

So starting Monday....watch out fat, I'm getting me some fresh batteries for my MP3 player, pulling up my socks and running in place for 45 minutes! Heck ya!

Crazy!

So seems like just yesterday we were just pregnant with Juliet and today was a huge milestone in her life.....and a in ours. She had her first school picture day.

Her and Eric practiced their smiles for today and they even got to pick out what color background they wanted. Naturally, Juliet picked purple. :)

I think we get the pictures back in a few weeks and I can't wait to see them. We already made out a list of who they will be sent out too and she was all excited at how many people wanted her picture.

She goes off track soon (year around school) so it will be interesting to see how she adjusts to not going and me having a full hour for lunch (I use my lunch now to pick her up).

Also this weekend, Jason was home and he and my Dad moved all our stuff. I can not express the gratitude for both of them for moving the house over. It was a big job and they did most to all of it in one day! My two favorite men in the world...I owe them both a lot! so thank you, you two. I know that isn't near enough to say but I still wanted it said.

If you would like our new address, let me know. I can still get mail at mom and dads house too. Rebekah also lives with us so you can find her there too.

Anyway, I am just so excited to be in our new house and I think it is just crazy that Juliet is big enough to have picture day. :) CRAZY!!!!

Autumn Begins

So everyone. Autumn begins on September 22nd..... and I can not wait. I can already feel it in the air. Autumn or Fall is my most favorite time of year!!! I absolutely love it. My dear sister Deborah loves summer and although summer is a pleasant time of year I have to tell you that Fall is the time of year I love the best!

I love the color of the trees as they turn from deep greens to gold, orange, red and brown. I love the sound of the crunching leaves beneath my feat. I love the feel of the cool Fall breeze swirled with the warm Summer air. I love the darker mornings and the clouded evenings. I love the promise of rain and the hope of snow. I love the way you can leave a window open and have your face and feat cool while your wrapped up in a warm blanket. I love that hot chocolate taste ten times better during Fall and Winter. I love the gauzy clouds hovering, almost like a guardian....a season guardian. :)

I love the festivities too! I love Halloween! the colors, the costumes, the parties and the pumpkins. I love Thanksgiving! the colors, the parities, the family and the anticipation of Christmas and a new year! and of course black Friday (but that is another story all in it's self).

So needless to say I do enjoy the autumn, always have and always will. I like winter and spring...and summer but absolutely adore Fall!
So Yay for me that fall is coming. Hope yours is as colorful, fun and fantastic as I hope mine is going to be.

A childs thought process.....

I often post stories of things Juliet has done or said. I can't help it, she cracks me up. Her personality and sense of humor are so outrageous sometimes. I just love it and as she gets older and more clear in her thoughts, sometimes it becomes funnier...or more interesting. So here is out conversation this morning....where she came up with these questions or conclusions, I don't' know but they are cute so there you go.

Set the scene: we are driving to day care, she is looking out the window, eating her french toast stick and talking to her baby doll....

' moma, when Jesus comes and the sun falls down will he pick it back up?'
'If that is his plan to do so, then yes he will'
'If the sun falls on our car will he melt it?'
'The sun would melt our car baby, not Jesus'
'oh, but he can fix trees'
'Jesus can fix or do anything'
'He could make a car'
'He probably could but I think he would prefer to walk'
silence....then she says with a big ol grin on her face...

'because he has toes!'

So there you go. Jesus can fix everything because he has toes, then she thinks about it for a second and starts laughing her little head off. I asked her what was so funny and she says...because he has toes. Like it's the greatest joke she has ever heard.

I thought the conversation was a little insightful and funny and a little off the beaten path....I can only imagine what Jesus was thinking of her thought process.

What type are you?

At work my boss took this test and then suggested we take it to see what types we are and how those types work with each other. There are four different types.

I won't lie, I rolled my eyes and thought to myself....'what the heck is that going to tell me?' but you know what it turned out to be a pretty cool test. It told me a lot about myself and what makes me tick. :)

so here is the website. The test is free and only takes like 10-15 minutes. Have fun and let me know what you turn out to be. After your done it tells you all about your type and who else in history was your type too. pretty cool!

Prices

So if you haven't heard or been effected by how high gas prices are then you either live under a rock or you......well that's it because it's everywhere!

so what if you want to take a trip and don't know how much to plan for or if the gas alone is going to require a second mortgage....you could guess and either be pleasantly surprised or horribly upset with your guessing skills.

well I found this website that estimates how much your gas cost will be if you plan on taking a trip....even if your not its fun to plug in numbers of places you would like to go and see how much you would save by not going. hehe

I get a kick out of calculators anyway. If there is a calculator to figure something out, I'll find it and use it.

so here it is and have fun on your trip (even if it is imaginary...there's nothing to be ashamed of....)

Jokes

Who doesn't love a few jokes every once and a while....so I found this website (http://www.101funjokes.com/) anyway...here are a few I thought were funny. :) enjoy!

Walking up to a department store's fabric counter, the pretty girl said, "I would like to buy this material for a new dress. How much does it cost?" "Only one kiss per yard," replied the male clerk with a smirk. "That's fine," said the girl. "I'll take ten yards." With expectation and anticipation written all over his face, the clerk quickly measured out the cloth, wrapped it up, then teasingly held it out.
The girl snapped up the package, pointed to the old geezer standing beside her, and smiled, "Grandpa will pay the bill."

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. The next week the man realized that he would need his wife to wake him at 5.00 am for an early morning business flight to Chicago. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence, he finally wrote on a piece of paper,
"Please wake me at 5.00 am." The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9.00am, and that he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't woken him when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed ... it said...
"It is 5.00am; wake up."

Jacob, age 92, and Rebecca, age 89, are all excited about their decision to get married. They go for a stroll to discuss the wedding and on the way they pass a drugstore. Jacob suggests they go in.
Jacob addresses the man behind the counter:'Are you the owner?'
The pharmacist answers yes.Says
Jacob: 'We're about to get married. Do you sell heart medication?'
Pharmacist: 'Of course we do.'
Jacob: 'How about medicine for circulation?'
Pharmacist: 'All kinds.'
Jacob: 'Medicine for rheumatism, scoliosis? '
Pharmacist: 'Definitely.'
Jacob: 'How about Viagra?'
Pharmacist: 'Of course.'
Jacob: 'Medicine for memory problems, arthritis, jaundice?'
Pharmacist: 'Yes, a large variety. The works.'
Jacob: 'What about vitamins, sleeping pills, Geritol, antidotes for Parkinson's disease?'
Pharmacist: 'Absolutely.'
Jacob: 'You sell wheelchairs and walkers?'
Pharmacist: 'All speeds and sizes.'
Jacob says to the pharmacist: 'We'd like to register here for our wedding gifts, please.'

A woman has twins, and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Amal." The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan".
Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his mum. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Amal.
Her husband responds, "But they are twins. If you've seen Juan, you've seen Amal."

Suprise

So imagine me laying in bed about 7:30am, I had just put in a movie for Juliet and given her breakfast and laid back down for a blissful 10 more minutes of sleep....or resting my eyes as it is at this point. I hear frodo getting excited about something. I happily think it is him getting ready to catch the mouse that has gotten in (they come in every year around fall...drives me NUTTS), I see something out of the corner of my eye (out bedroom window faces the backyard) and I freak out.

Frodo isn't getting excited about the dang mouse, he is excited about a burglar/killer trying to get in our house. I scramble out of bed, call out to Juliet to come in my room and frantically try to get my pants and shirt on, while running to the closet for our gun. then I hear 'DADDY'....wait what?

that's right I almost shot my husband...he neglected to tell me he was coming home because he wanted to surprise me....well surprise I tell him if it weren't for the fact that the gun was at the top of the closet in the very back in a locked case....I would have shot you. Good to know I would have never gotten it in time if it were a burglar but nice to know I had time not to shoot my husband.

I should have known what was going on, Frodo wouldn't get that excited about a burglar! and usually they dont' break in at 7:30 in the morning.

so I got my birthday wish. Jason came home, so surprise to me! as well as a good workout and scare of a lifetime and Happy Birthday to both of us.

yay!

Birthday

so I changed my background because it's, thats right folks, it my birthday..the big 26. haha. I actually forgot about it until I watched the news and then when people started giving me cards at work. I got a candle, breakfast pastries and a mini-rose plant. how fun!

yesterday mom took me out to sushi and ice-cream and tomorrow my friend is taking me to lunch. And my sisters, mom and dad have either called, texted, or googled me a message. so I must say birthdays do have their perks. :)

Jason's birthday is tomorrow he will be old too....31. it is sad because he is not here to celebrate with me but when he comes back, we plan on going to the Melting Pot. YUUUUMMM.

I also thought it was fun that i share my birthday with one of the greatest events in American history....Martin Luther King's 'I have a Dream' speech. How great that is right? and today marks the 45th anniversary. wonderful.

so no big plans for my birthday but I still appreciate all the e-mails, cards and thoughts that are coming my way.

Happy Birthday to me!!! by the way I will be having my cake and eating it too!!! heck ya!
